Mind-Body Exercise Therapy

Our mind is connected to our body through energy. When our mind is energetically disconnected from the body, we can neither function mentally nor physically. Without a balanced mind and body, sickness is not far behind. Mind-body exercise techniques help to cultivate and circulate energy to improve the connection between mind and body, which leads to better health, disease prevention and longevity.
Acupuncture Meridians
Many ancient cultures have various forms of mind-body exercise therapies. The most popular mind-body exercise in Oriental medicine is QiGong (pronounced Chee-Gong). Qi means energy, Gong means skill that is developed with time. Therefore QiGong means the skill in cultivating Qi-energy. QiGong uses breath-work, meditation, vocalization, visualization, stretching of energetic pathways, tapping of acupuncture points and movement therapy to circulate Qi-energy and bridge the mind to the body.
Another popular mind-body exercise is TaiJiQuan (pronounced Tai-Ji-Chuan), which is translated as Supreme Polarity Fist. The polarity here refers to the complementary forces of yin and yang energy. TaiJiQuan is an ingenious internal style of martial art that has QiGong exercises built into its movements. Practiced for its health promoting effect rather than for combat, this graceful, low-impact and relaxing art is ideal for strengthening mind-body connections. Many Oriental medicine practitioners consider TaiJiQuan to be the ultimate longevity exercise.
